    Squad Swimming

    Bronze, Silver, Gold
We have 3 squads, Gold, Silver and Bronze training up to 4 times a week and a Land Training Session.

Founded 1887 - The longest established club in Croydon.

Affiliated to CBSA and London Swimming

We are a very friendly non-profit making swimming club providing teaching and coaching for all ages and abilities.

We believe firmly that swimmers of all ages should be able to train, compete and socialise in an environment that is challenging yet fun and enjoyable whilst keeping them safe from harm.
In order to achieve this we, as an affiliate of the ASA, will implement the Wavepower 2016-2019 document which is a set of policies and procedures that safeguard and protect the swimmers in our club.

REMINDER - To Amend Your Standing Orders

    Dear Parents and carers,

We hope you are keeping safe during this very difficult time.

If your Standing Order (S.O) hasn't yet gone out could we please remind you to amend it to £10.00 for squad members and £5.00 for teaching classes asap. However, if your S.O has already gone out but you haven't amended it, can you please let us know whether you are happy to pay the reduced amount. We can either refund the difference, or credit your account, when we restart our swimming sessions.

There are plenty of land training exercises/you-tube video's for swimmers, online. Please select the following links:

Q: What kind of stroke can you use on toast?
    A: BUTTER-fly! 😂

Q: Why did the vegetarians stop swimming?
    A: They didn't like the meets  😂

TEMPORARY CLOSURE - Woodside & Thornton Heath Swimming Club

    To all parents and guardians,

By now you will have heard that the government has told all leisure centres to close, both South Norwood and Thornton Heath closed as from yesterday and therefore we have no choice but to cease all lessons with immediate effect. There will be no more lessons nor training sessions, until we receive external advice to the contrary. This is in line with most other, if not all, swimming clubs. Although we have not heard from St Joseph's, there will be no training there either. We will continue to monitor government advice to ensure the health and well-being of our members, coaches, families and the wider community.

As you will be aware Woodside & Thornton Heath Swim Club is a non-profitable club run by volunteers and in order to benefit the communities that we serve, we obviously wish to resume our full training and teaching schedules as soon as the situation allows. We want to retain the services of our existing teaching and coaching staff who have continued to deliver a high class of instruction and retain our pool time with our providers, so that we can restart training and teaching schedules as near normal as possible. To this end, the club must remain as an on-going concern and continue to cover financial overheads to ensure that we have a strong and viable club for all to come back to.

After careful consideration, we therefore kindly ask you to support the club by maintaining a small contribution of £10 per month for each squad member and £5 per month for each teaching class member. This will allow us to provide a small retainer to our existing teachers, to cover other overheads and allow us to pay upfront costs when we restart. As you all appreciate, this is an evolving situation and we will be reviewing this position carefully and constantly to assess the effects on our continuing viability and ability to restart.

Lastly, we therefore ask you all to review and amend your standing order payments with effect from 1st April 2020 to reduce the amounts sent to us. Standing Orders are only amendable by yourselves, we have no control over them whatsoever. However, any over payments made for April will be refunded along with any gala entry fees paid upfront for forthcoming galas.

We are grateful for your support as without it the club would not be here for the swimmers. We will keep you updated as the situation progresses.

    Coronavirus (COVID-19)

    URGENT Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE

    To all parents and guardians,

You will all be aware of recent government guidance concerning the current Coronavirus pandemic. The government has not, as yet, instigated any mandated closures or ‘lock downs’. Schools are being kept open, along with leisure facilities across the country.

The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) has advised Swim England that the Coronavirus is inactivated by the current chlorine levels in swimming pools. Whilst the pools remain open, and like Swim England, we do not see any reason why we cannot continue with our training programme.

Your children will be mixing with other children and some adults at the swimming pool, as they do each day at school, however I understand that GLL have closed the Steam Room and Sauna at Thornton Heath therefore there will be less adults around in the changing area. If you are concerned about your child(ren) being in the changing area with others then please ask them to use the changing cubicles that are available.

We are all continually listening out for guidance from Public Health England, the government and the Leisure Centre operator (GLL) and currently none of this guidance leads us to suspend teaching / squad swimming sessions.

There is a hand sanitise dispenser outside the changing village at Thornton Heath. Therefore, can we please remind everyone that hand hygiene is paramount at all times.

Thank you for your co-operation in this difficult time.
